Top Tips for 2024 – Part 5: The Perfect Recovery Shake

image

By Matt Johnson

Founder of The Feed.

For the fifth and final installment of our Top Tips for 2024 Series, we are talking about recovery. Matt shares the perfect recovery shake – something that should be a non-negotiable part of the daily routine for athletes.

We've reached part five, the final chapter of my 2024 improvement series! So far, we've covered daily rehydration, managing gut issues with SwissRX Gut Defense (sold out, order now, and it ships Jan 7th), a simple supplement routine for athletes, and the benefits of a pre-bed magnesium drink.

I'm excited to share my go-to post-workout recovery shake. It's a non-negotiable part of my routine, crucial after every workout. You might find it interesting that I suggest three different shake "bases" but emphasize two essential add-ins. It's these add-ins that make the real difference for me.

Let's look at the three base options:

  • SwissRX Total Recovery - This is a top pick, though pricier. It's more than carbs and protein; it includes ingredients like Turmeric, Bee Propolis, and L-glutamine to manage post-workout inflammation. With 14g carbs and 19g brown rice protein, it's perfect for daily use.
  • Skratch Recovery - Ideal for post-endurance workouts. It tastes so good, it's almost sinful. Packed with 35g carbs and less focus on protein (8g), it's excellent for replenishing glycogen stores after intense endurance efforts.
  • Momentous Grass Fed Whey - Great for post-strength sessions, with 20g of high-quality protein and just 3g of carbs. My favorite for gym workouts.

For a plant-based option, Kyoku works well as a breakfast or recovery shake, similar to SwissRX but more natural.

Now for the key add-ins:

  • Creatine (2.5g): Beyond strength, it's a mood booster. I really feel its absence when I travel. At 2.5g, you avoid water retention issues.
  • Collagen (7g): Crucial for joint health and comes with bonus skin and hair benefits. SwissRX has the best quality with unique patented forms.
  • L-Glutamine (optional): I use SwissRX Gut Defense, adding it to my shake once or twice weekly.

Finally, don't hesitate to mix whole milk (or a milk alternative), ice, and a banana for a pro-level recovery shake.

Now you are ready for 2024!

Happy New Year!
